Gonzaga vs San Francisco Analysis
Gonzaga has continuously kept themselves atop the rankings this season, with an impressive 23-2 record this year!
They have been on of the most dominant team in the recent past, especially outside the “power 5”, without question. In my opinion, they are the most well balanced team in the nation, coming in ranking #2 in offensive efficiency & #6 in defense efficiency according to KenPom.
They are putting up nearly 90 PPG on the season, and allowing under 65 points on average. The Zags offense has done it from all aspects this season, ranking #2 in effective FG%, including the #1 ranking in the country in 2PT shot percentage, and sitting at #26 in 3PT shooting percentage.
They have protected the ball better then most teams around, ranking #33 in TO% lost, while their height has limited potential blocks from the opposition, sitting as the 12th best team in blocks allowed.
Their defense is the best team in the country against effective FG%, which includes the 19th best defense against three point shooting, and the 3rd best team against the 2PT percentage, against utilizing the height that they have as the 8th tallest team on average.
Bulldogs Bullying WCC
Gonzaga has won 16 straight games and they are undefeated in conference play. This team has played some of their best ball against their best competition this season, they have won seven straight games against teams that rank in KenPom’s top-100, but have posted a 9-2 record on the season.
On the offensive side of the ball, they have faced 11 teams that rank in the top-75 in terms of offensive efficient, winning nine of those 11 games and allowing those top caliber units to put up under 71 PPG.
They have played eight games against teams that rank in the top-50 defensively, in those eight games they have posted a 7-1 record, and averaged nearly 84 PPG! That isn’t far behind their season average, although on the road this offensive unit has put up 95.5 PPG!
Dons Defense Surprisingly Dominant
This San Francisco team has exceed a lot of peoples expectations this season, posting a 21-7 record on the season. Surprisingly enough, all seven of their losses this season have come on their home court.
Their offense has put up over 76 PPG this season, behind the 61st offense in terms of efficiency, yet on their home court, where most teams thrive, they have put up less then 60 PPG on average!
Although, in the last five games, this San Francisco offense has average 83 PPG, a major step up from where their offense has performed, but just one of those five games took place on their home court. San Francisco has found themselves in KenPom’s top-25, based more off of the production of their defense this season.
Gonzaga vs San Francisco Prediction
The Dons are allowing under 66 PPG this year, yet against on their home court they have struggled allowing nearly 72 PPG.
While, San Francisco hasn’t played one of the most difficult schedules this season, that is very fortunate for the team because they are just 1-4 straight up against top-50 teams overall through KenPom’s rankings.
San Francisco has played a whopping 12 games against teams that rank in the top-75 in terms of offensive efficiency, winning seven of the 12 games, and allowing under 68 PPG against the opposition.
They have also played nine games against teams in the top-75 defenses, but they haven’t been as lucky against the powerhouse defensive units, winning just three of the nine games and averaging just over 66 PPG themselves.
Prediction: Gonzaga -10
