Indiana vs Wyoming Analysis
Indiana had a nice run in the Big 10 Tournament before losing late in the game to Iowa on Saturday 80-77.
Their two wins against Michigan and Illinois though most likely was the reason they earned their way into the tournament as an 11 seed.
Wyoming wishes they would have played better down the stretch of the regular season as they only went 4-4 to end before the Mountain West Conference Tournament.
The Cowboys played a somewhat difficult non-conference schedule beating Washington and Northern Iowa but got blown out by Arizona and lost by three to Stanford.
The books currently have Indiana as a four point favorite as we head into this matchup in Dayton on Tuesday.
Jackson-Davis Jump Starts Hoosiers
The Hoosiers best player by far is Trayce Jackson-Davis and he’ll need to put up numbers if they want a shot at facing Saint Mary’s on Thursday.
The Cowboys will have their hands full with him as he produces most when he’s working inside. Wyoming ranks 127th nationally at defending the two point shot.
Defensively the Hoosiers are solid ranking 21st in adjusted defensive efficiency 23rd in effective field goal percentage against and 7th in two point field goal percentage against.
Indiana forces opponents into taking bad shots and Wyoming already has to improve their production inside if they want a shot at winning this game. The Cowboys only generate 48.2% of points inside which is 262nd in the nation.
Maldonado Leading Cowboys
Rolling out an overall efficient team on both sides of the ball, the Cowboys will look to win this game at a slow and steady pace while making it to the foul line for point production. 20.4% of Wyoming’s points come from the free throw line which is 51st nationally.
They’re 54th in adjusted offensive efficiency and 66th in adjusted defensive efficiency. It’s shocking that Wyoming doesn’t produce more inside considering they have a top 10 team in the country as far as height goes and they’re 32nd in two point field goal percentage.
Sophomore Graham Ike is who Wyoming likes to play through on offense putting up over 19 points and 9 rebounds per game while shooting it at 51%.
Senior guard Hunter Maldonado is the primary playmaker for the Cowboys averaging over 18 points 5 rebounds and 6 assists per game while shooting over 49% from the field.
Indiana vs Wyoming Prediction
Indiana is definitely the hotter team heading into this matchup and they played a more demanding schedule than the Cowboys.
As stated Indiana really only earned their tournament bid because of the past week of playing or so and not necessarily the entire season as a whole.
Wyoming has a much more balanced team as far as talent goes and can slow down Jackson-Davis with multiple players. Take the Cowboys and the points.
Prediction: Wyoming Cowboys +4
