Colorado State vs Wyoming Analysis
After winning five in a row, Colorado State suffered a tough upset loss at UNLV 72-51 last Saturday. Wyoming failed to cover the spread against Air Force in their last game as 16 point favorites but still won the game 75-67.
The last time these two teams met back on January 31 the Cowboys came away with an overtime win at home 84-78. With the Rams as seven point favorites heading into this matchup, let’s see if they can do enough this time to come away with the win (or at least cover the spread).
Rams Rely on Roddy
If the Rams are going to cover it’s going to be on the back of junior guard David Roddy. When he’s on, the Rams are on, same thing goes for when he’s off.
He averages over 19 points per game but what’s even more impressive is that he does this while averaging over 45% from downtown and over 57% overall.
Let’s add the fact that he’s also the Rams leading rebounder too with 7.5 per game. The Rams offense overall is as solid as they come in the Mountain West Conference ranking high in several categories nationally.
They’re 17th in adjusted offensive efficiency, 14th in effective field goal percentage, 12th in two point field goal percentage and 54th in three point field goal percentage. The only place the Rams struggle is offensive rebounding ranking 342nd nationally.
Cowboys All In on Ike
If Wyoming is going to pull off another win against the Rams they should watch game film on Colorado State’s last game with UNLV as the Rebels were able to contain Roddy and the rest of the Rams limiting them to 51 total points.
The Cowboys have an offensive star of their own in sophomore forward Graham Ike who has been on fire as of late. In the Cowboys last four games Ike has averaged over 26 points per game while shooting 60% from the field.
He likes to stay down low as he went 11-11 against Air Force in their last game. He needs to stay out of foul trouble if the Cowboys want a chance in this one as the last time these two met he fouled out. One of only two games that’s happened for Ike this season.
Colorado State vs Wyoming Prediction
With the line currently favoring the Rams by seven right now, I just think that’s too big of a line for them to cover.
Wyoming is 14-9-2 against the spread this season and I think they do enough to keep the game within seven points at the end. Ike plays smart, stays out of foul trouble, puts up 20+ and keeps the Cowboys in it.
Prediction: Wyoming +6.5
