Nevada vs San Jose State Betting Analysis
Two of the best in covering the spread this season go at it in the Mountain West tonight as Nevada welcomes San Jose State.
The Wolfpack are 16-8-2 against the spread however they lost by nine points in their most recent game to Utah State when listed as a 4.5-point underdog.
The Spartans were starting to find their groove until meeting with an aggressive New Mexico team losing by 28 when listed as a 1.5-point home favorite.
Both teams are in bounce back mode with Nevada trying to polish off their NCAA Tournament resume. San Jose State still has an outside chance but need to make a run that lasts into the Mountain West Conference Tournament.
Blackshear-Baker Combo Lead Nevada
Nevada uncharacteristically shot 22 three-point shots in their loss against the Aggies ranking second to last in conference play in three-point attempts per game and percentage of points coming beyond the arch.
They do a ton of damage at the free throw line shooting over 80% in Mountain West Conference play.
Senior Kenan Blackshear continues to be the most consistent player for the Wolfpack averaging 14.8 points, 4.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game while also adding 1.6 steals per game on defense.
Jarod Lucas needs to have a better game than he did against the Aggies if the Wolfpack want to win and cover. He only scored eight points on 3-10 shooting while averaging 17.3 ppg on the season.
Seven foot center Will Baker scored 25 points in that game and he’ll be utilized heavily tonight against the best rebounding team in the conference.
Spartans Rely On Second Chance Opportunities
The formula should be simple for San Jose State to stay in this game. Create as many second chance opportunities as possible on offense. Sage Tolbert III, Robert Vaihola and Ibrahima Diallo are going to be responsible for those second chance opportunities as those three combine for over 19 total rebounds per game for San Jose State.
Junior Omari Moore is the overall playmaker for the Spartans averaging 17 points, 4.9 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game on the season.
The last time these two teams met, the Spartans only scored 40 total points and the Wolfpack actually out rebounded the Spartans by 11 and produced nine more offensive rebounds than San Jose State as well!
Nevada is one of the only teams in the Mountain West that can matchup with San Jose State inside which doesn’t bode well for the Spartans.
Nevada vs San Jose State Expert Prediction
With both teams coming off bad losses I give the bounce back advantage to Nevada playing at home with much more fire power on the offensive end to deploy as well.
Sure Nevada has notched the 20-win mark but they’re still in the hunt for a Mountain West Conference Championship and they need a couple more impressive wins to solidify their NCAA Tournament berth. Take Nevada to win by double digits.
Prediction: Nevada Wolfpack -9
