Clemson vs Georgia Tech Analysis
For the second time since 2019, Clemson and Georgia Tech take on each other in week 1. Clemson won and covered the 2019 match-up, after taking a 28-0 lead into halftime, the Tigers ended up winning the game by a score of 52-14.
Last season, Georgia Tech kept this match-up very close, just a 4th and goal conversion from a potential upset before losing by a score of 14-8.
Yellow Jackets Make Rare Neutral Field Appearance
This is the first time HC Geoff Collins has played a game on a neutral site as the coach of Georgia Tech yet the Yellow Jackets are 6-3 ATS since 2012 on a neutral site.
Although, Georgia Tech is just 1-8 against teams in the top-25 since he took over. While also posting a 7-18 record against conference opponents (10-14-1 ATS).
Clemson Can Make an Impact This Season
Dating back to 2012, Clemson has posted an impressive 17-5 SUATS record on neutral site games and a dominant 78-10 record against ACC opponents (but just 49-36-3 ATS). They have won four of their last five season openers, but they have covered just 2 of those 5 games, including the 2019 meeting vs. Georgia Tech.
Clemson ended last season 10-3, while slipping drastically on the offensive side of the ball. This year, they look to change that quickly as they have more returning starters on offense this year (9) than they have had in any season since 2015. The Tigers averaged 40+ PPG for three straight seasons before putting up just 26.3 last year.
They return their QB, their top four rushers and six of their top five receivers, while their defense losses four of their top six receivers but returns 14 of their next 15.
They also return players like Bryan Bresee who missed last season with injury. Not to mention, with the amount of players this team rotates in, even players that didn’t start last season, still have more in game experience than a lot of other teams in the country.
Clemson vs Georgia Tech Prediction
Georgia Tech hasn’t been able to win or cover the spread against conference opponents, especially when they rank in the top-25.
Some of these off-season additions may be beneficial, but I don’t think it will be enough to show up in week 1 and take down an improved Tigers offense.
Prediction: Clemson Tigers -22
