Miami Marlins vs Philadelphia Phillies Analysis
The Phillies and Marlins will play the second game of their four-game series against each other on Friday night.
The Marlins, behind excellent pitching from Sandy Alcantara, took home the win in yesterday’s matchup. Today, Pablo Lopez is on the hill for the Marlins and Zach Eflin is on the bump for the Phillies.
Miami is a -120 favorite and is -1.5 on the run line. The total for this matchup is set at 7.5 runs.
Three Straight Losses for Phillies
The Phillies are currently on a three-game losing streak that could have easily been a five-game losing streak if it wasn’t for one great inning against the Mets.
Philadelphia has a very good lineup, but their offense has not translated to wins early this season. Philly bats .249 as a team with a .416 slugging percentage.
In his first start this season, Zach Eflin threw well against Oakland, but the Phillies could not get the win. Elfin went four innings and allowed just two hits, two walks, and no runs. Ideally, Eflin can throw more than four innings today and continue to keep down the hits and let up no runs.
Lopez Hopes to Repeat First Start
Miami had a rough road stretch to start the season, but it feels like this team is glad to be back in Miami. Miami was able to score three runs in the fourth last night and hold the Phillies to three runs total, and take home the win.
The Marlins’ offense has struggled so far this season, but when their pitching staff is as good as they’ve been, they can pick up some of the slack.
Pablo Lopez will take the bump for the Marlins today, and he pitched very well in his first start. The 26-year-old allowed just one run on three hits and one walk over five innings pitched.
Lopez also added five strikeouts. Today, he will need to neutralize the Phillies’ top-heavy lineup and keep the ball in the park.
Miami Marlins vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction
The Phillies are really struggling right now, and while I could see their bats waking up today, I have to go with the Marlins moneyline.
Pablo Lopez is a borderline ace who seems to get better every time he steps on the bump. Eflin, while good, does not inspire the same confidence as a pitcher.
Even though the Marlins’ offense has been struggling to start the season, this series is a good spot for them to bounce back.
The Marlins’ four-run game yesterday was their highest run total since the opener, so I think their lineup can establish some momentum, and I believe Lopez will deliver on the mound.
Prediction: Miami Marlins Moneyline (-120)
