Philadelphia Phillies vs Miami Marlins Analysis
On Monday night, the Marlins and the Phillies square off for the first game of a three-game series. The Marlins are coming off a series win against the Astros in Houston and the Phillies are coming off a series win against the Diamondbacks at home.
Both teams are red hot right now and are playing their best baseball of the season. The Marlins currently are winning the season series 3-1. For this matchup, the Phillies are -135 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 7.5 runs.
Miami Marlins Betting Preview
The Marlins are 7-3 in their last 10 games and they have improved to 27-31 on the season. Miami sits in fourth place in the NL East standings and they are just two games behind the Phillies for third.
Miami is 12-17 on the road this season and they are 22-11 covering the run line as road underdogs this year.
Sandy Alcantara will make the start for Miami tonight. Alcantara is my NL Cy Young so far this season and he is off to a tremendous start.
Alcantara is 6-2 on the season with a 1.61 ERA, a .94 WHIP, and a 2.96 FIP. Sandy pitched against the Phillies on 4/14 and allowed two runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings.
Alcantara has thrown two complete games in his last four starts and he has allowed just four runs during that stretch.
Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview
The Phillies are 9-1 in their last 10 games and they are one of the hottest teams in baseball. The Phillies are 30-30 on the season and they are 3.5 games behind the Braves for second place in the NL East. The Phillies are 17-16 at home this season and are 17-21 covering the run line as a favorite this year.
Aaron Nola will make the start for the Phillies tonight. Nola is 4-4 on the season with a 3.50 ERA, a .88 WHIP, and a 3.24 FIP.
Nola has not faced Miami yet this season. In his last three starts, Nola has allowed six runs on 13 hits over 24.1 innings.
Nola has had some great starts this season and some shaky starts. Miami has a .674 OPS on the road, a .710 OPS at night, and a .747 OPS against right-handed pitching.
Philadelphia Phillies vs Miami Marlins Prediction
The Marlins cover the run line a ton as a favorite, and I would back them in this spot. The Marins are just as hot as the Phillies and they have the best pitcher in the NL going for them tonight.
The Marlins should certainly cover and they may win outright. I have identified a 5% play on today’s MLB slate and it is available on my Sportsmemo capper profile – I am 4-0 (100%) on 5% plays this season.
Prediction: Miami Marlins Runline +1.5 -170
