Phillies vs Nationals Analysis
On Thursday night, the Nationals and the Phillies face off for the first game of a four-game series. The Nationals are coming off a 2-1 series loss against the Mets at home, and the Phillies are coming off a 1-1 split with the Braves in Atlanta.
For the season series between these two teams, the Phillies are up 6-2. For this matchup, the Phillies are -235 favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 9 runs.
Espino Excited For Rematch With Phillies
The Nationals completed their fire sale with the trades of Juan Soto and Josh Bell, and this already bad roster will struggle to compete for the rest of the year. They played well against the Mets, but it is hard to expect anything positive from the Nationals moving forward.
The best-case scenario for Nationals fans would be if Washington beats another NL East rival late in the season to knock them out of playoff contention. Good thing they won that ring in 2019.
Paolo Espino will make the start for the Nationals tonight in Philadelphia. This will be his 10th start of the season and he has made a few relief appearances as well.
Espino is 0-3 with a 3.78 ERA, 4.78 FIP, and a 1.25 WHIP. In his last three starts, Espino allowed eight runs on 17 hits over 14 innings of work. On 7/5, Espino pitched against the Phillies in Philly and allowed four runs on six hits in 3.2 innings.
Syndergaard’s First Start For Phillies
The Phillies are 10 games behind the Mets in the NL East standings, but they are right in the NL Wild Card race. Philly made big moves during the trade deadline and they were able to strengthen their lineup, starting pitching, and bullpen.
The Phillies are 56-48, they are 26-25 at home, and they are 29-37 covering the run line as a favorite this year.
One of the big trades the Phillies made was for starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard. Syndergaard is familiar with the NL East from his time with the Mets, so he will know what to expect from the Nationals, even if they traded away a lot of their key pieces.
For the Angles, Syndergaard had a 3.83 ERA, a 3.95 FIP, and a 1.21 WHIP. Syndergaard has much better splits at home this season, but his home has changed. There is not a ton of data to back up Syndergaard besides how he performed with the Angles earlier this year and with the Mets against the NL earlier in his career.
Phillies vs Nationals Prediction
I hate laying major juice on moneylines, but, it can be profitable. The Nationals are no good and the Phillies are all in to make a push this season.
They cannot afford to lose this game. Do not go broke betting the Phillies, but they should win, so lay the juice.
Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies Moneyline -235
