Nationals at Marlins Analysis
On Thursday night, the Nationals and the Marlins will face off for the final game of a three-game series. Miami won the first two games and is winning the season series against Washington 7-1.
Trevor Rodgers will take the mound for Miami and Stephen Strasburg will make the start for the Nationals.
This is Strasburg’s first start of 2022 after an arm injury derailed the start of his season. The Marlins are -139 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 8 runs.
Washington Nationals Betting Preview
The Nationals got a fantastic outing from Josiah Gray last night, but they fell to Miami 2-1 in the 10th inning.
Washington is 4-6 in their last 10 games and is batting .246, but what is more concerning, is its pitching staff having a 7.31 ERA.
Washington is 21-37 and they sit in last place in the NL East. They are 12-19 on the road and are 20-28 covering the run line as an underdog this season.
Stephen Strasburg will make the start for the Nationals tonight. He has been out of baseball for almost a year due to a major injury, so it is nice to see him back and ready to make a start.
Strasburg has shown signs of dominance throughout his career, so it is interesting to see how he will fare in his first start back. I do not expect Strasburg to throw more than five innings since this is his debut.
Miami Marlins Betting Preview
Miami is 24-30 on the season and seven of their wins so far have come against Washington. The Marlins are 14-14 at home this season and they are 5-5 in their last 10 games.
The Marlins are two games back of the Phillies for 3rd place in the NL East. Miami is 8-16 as a favorite on the run line this season.
Trevor Rodgers is set to make the start for Miami tonight. Rodgers is 2-5 on the season and the Marlins are 2-8 in games Rodgers starts this season.
Rodgers has a 5.80 ERA, a 1.56 WHIP, and a 5.19 FIP. Rodgers has never thrown more than six innings in a start this season and he has allowed at least one earned run in all but one start.
On 4/28 he pitched against Washington and allowed just one run on two hits over six innings – his best start of the season.
Nationals at Marlins Prediction
This game is tough to predict since it is the first time Strasburg will pitch in the MLB this season. On the other hand, Rodgers has been roughed up a ton this season, but Washington could not hit him in their first matchup.
Eight runs for the total seems low, I have it priced at 9.2, so there is slight value there and I would lean to the over. For the rest of my card, with all 3% plays, check out my profile on Sportsmemo. I am 6-3 in over the last 7 days.
Prediction: Over 8 -110
