Phillies vs Rangers Analysis
After winning a three-game series vs the Atlanta Braves in Texas, the Rangers travel to Philly to take on the Phillies in a two-game series. Philadelphia lost their last series 2-1 against the Mets.
Righty Jon Gray will make his third start of the season for the Rangers and lefty Ranger Suarez will make his fifth start of the year for Philly. The Phillies are -170 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 8.5 runs.
Phillies Preview
After losing a series against the Mets in New York, Philly had a day off yesterday and returns home to face in Rangers in an interleague matchup.
The Phillies are 11-12 so far this season and are in 3rd place in the NL East. Philly has been winning games with their offense – they are batting .244 with a .408 slugging percentage.
Lefty Ranger Suarez will take the hill for Philly for his fifth start of the season. In his previous four starts, Suarez pitched 18.1 innings and allowed nine runs on 22 hits and eight walks.
Suarez has only recorded 12 strikeouts so far this season, however, the Phillies are 4-0 in games Suarez started this season.
Rangers Preview
In their last series, the Rangers took on the Atlanta Braves and won at home. Texas improved to 8-14 this season but is still in last place in the AL West.
The Rangers have struggled on offense and their pitching staff has not been much better so far this season.
Righty Jon Gray will take the mound for just his third start of the 2022 season. In his previous starts, Gray did not pitch well and the Rangers lost both games. Gray has gone 9 innings and has allowed seven runs on six hits.
Phillies vs Rangers Prediction
Neither of these two teams are playing great baseball right now, and the oddsmakers have Philly as a hefty favorite for this matchup.
Neither Suarez nor Gray have been dynamic on the mound, so I expect both teams to put the ball in play often. With that being said, I lean toward over 8.5 runs for this matchup.
Despite scoring and offense being down in baseball so far this season, this is a matchup where both teams have better offensive outlooks than pitching outlooks. I expect the Phillies and Rangers to both put runs on the board.
Prediction: Over 8.5 Total Runs Scored
