St. Louis Cardinals vs Atlanta Braves Analysis
On Friday night, the Braves and the Cardinals face off for one of the most important series in the MLB at the moment. The Braves are coming off a three-game sweep of the Pirates and the Cardinals are coming off a 3-2 series win against the Cubs.
The Braves lead the season series 3-1. For this matchup, the Braves are -145 road favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 7.5 runs.
Braves Boiling Heading Down The Stretch
Atlanta is one of the hottest teams in the MLB and they continue to push their way up the NL East standings. Atlanta is 78-48 on the year and they are two games behind the Mets for first place in the NL East. The Braves are 8-2 in their last 10 games, they are 36-24 on the road, and they are 52-46 covering the run line as a favorite.
Rookie phenom Spencer Strider will make the start for the Braves tonight in St. Louis. Strider is 7-4 in 15 starts this year with a 2.95 ERA, a 2.06 FIP, and a 1.02 WHIP.
In his last three starts, Strider has allowed six runs on 12 hits in 13.2 innings of work. One of those starts came against the Mets and Strider did not make it out of the third inning. On 7/7, Strider pitched against the Cardinals on the road and allowed no runs on two hits in six innings in a Braves loss in extra innings.
On the road this season, Strider has a 3.48 ERA, a .155 batting average against, a 2.81 FIP, and a .98 WHIP. The Braves are 4-7 in Strider’s road starts this season.
Cardinals Crushing the Opposition
St. Louis will be without Nolan Arenado this weekend which is a huge blow to their lineup. Nevertheless, this Cardinals team is rolling and they have a six-game lead in the NL Central. St. Louis is 8-2 in their last 10 games, they are 40-21 at home this season, and they are 31-22 covering the run line as an underdog.
Jose Quintana will make a start for the Cardinals tonight at home against the Braves. Quintana is 4-5 in 24 starts on the season with a 3.45 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and a 3.29 FIP.
Since coming to the Cardinals from the Pirates, Quintana has allowed nine runs and 19 hits over 19.2 innings of work in four starts.
The Cardinals are 4-0 in Quintana’s four starts this season, and they are 3-1 covering the run line in those starts. The Braves have the third-highest OPS in the Majors against left-handed pitching this season.
St. Louis Cardinals vs Atlanta Braves Prediction
Both of these teams are on fire as of late, and this should be a great matchup. Both pitchers have been looking good this season, but something will have to give tonight. I like the Braves to win this game straight up with no Arenado in the lineup for St. Louis.
Prediction: Atlanta Braves Moneyline -144
