MLB | (911) Detroit Tigers at (912) New York Yankees | 7:05pm EDT - May 3/2024 |
The PLAY: Total Under 8.0 (-118) R Olson (RHP), M Stroman (RHP) Must Start
The Tigers have built an exciting, young pitching rotation but Detroit's offense still has a long way to go. Reese Olson enters Friday's contest with a 3.18 ERA and he's in the top-half of all pitchers in expected ERA, expected batting average allowed, chase rate, whiff rate and barrel rate. Not too shabby for a 24-year-old, right? So why is he 0-4 on the season? Because the Tigers have scored an average of 2.4 runs per game in the five games that Olson has started. Only three of Detroit's last 11 games have seen more than eight runs. Dating back to the beginning of last season, the Tigers are hitting .232 against right-hand pitching (No. 27 in MLB) with a .302 on-base percentage (No. 27) and a 88 wRC+ (No. 28). During that same time, the Yankees are hitting .225 against right-hand pitching (No. 29) with a .304 on-base percentage (No. 26) and a 94 wRC+ (No. 22). Winds are expected to be blowing in at Yankee Stadium tonight.
