Washington Nationals vs Arizona Diamondbacks Analysis
After both teams lost their last series, the Diamondbacks travel to DC to take on the Nationals. Both teams lost their previous games and are looking to get back in the win column.
Arizona will start their ace Madison Bumgarner while the Nationals will trot out rookie Josiah Gray. Washington is -137 favorites, the run line is -1.5 and the total is set at 8 runs.
Gray in Line For Mouthwatering Start
In a four-game series vs the Pirates in Pittsburgh, the Nationals only won one game and lost the series. Washington got good performances from their starting pitchers, but the Nationals bullpen could not hold up in those games. Washington has now fallen to 4-7 on the season.
Rookie Josiah Gray will take the mound tonight against arguably the worst offense in the MLB. After a rocky first start, Gray bounced back nicely in his second start vs the Braves, allowing just one hit and three walks over five innings.
Gray will be tasked with shutting down the Diamondbacks’ offense which has the worse batting average in the majors and has scored the least amount of runs.
Diamondbacks Fire Back With Bumgarner
After dropping a three-game series vs the Mets, the Diamondbacks travel from NY to DC to take on the Nationals. Over three games vs the Mets, Arizona was only able to score six total runs. The Diamondbacks are batting .152 as a team, by far the worst in the majors.
The one positive for the Diamondbacks this season may be starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner. In his last start vs the Astros, Bumgarner allowed just one run on five hits and two walks over five innings. Today, he takes on a Nationals lineup that bats .232 with a .324 slugging percentage.
Washington Nationals vs Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction and Best Bet
Both the Nationals and the Diamondbacks struggled with scoring runs, and both of their bullpens struggle as well.
With Josiah Gray on the hill for Washington and Madison Bumgarner on the hill for Arizona, I like the game to be low scoring while the starters are on the hill.
The Diamondbacks have scored the least amount of runs in the MLB while also having the worst batting average.
The Nationals are not much better. While the aces are on the hill, I expect little to no scoring through the first five innings of this game.
Prediction and Best Bet: Under 4.5 Runs First Five Innings
