Minnesota Vikings vs Dallas Cowboys Analysis
The Cowboys and the Vikings are two of the top teams in the NFC, and this matchup on Sunday should be intense and exhilarating. The Cowboys are coming off a tough loss, but the Vikings are coming off a draining overtime victory.
This game is priced so closely because these teams are truly basically equal. Let’s dive into both of these teams and see where we have an edge in this matchup.
Vikings Surprise of NFL
While they are 8-1 on the season, the Vikings have not played every game as if they are truly a top team in the NFL. This team has squeaked by and has won close games, but they are certainly not as good as their record.
On offense, this Vikings team has been solid, but they have not been great. They have the second-best wideout in the NFL which makes their life easier, but all things considered, this offense still leaves a lot to be desired.
On a per-drive basis, the Vikings offense is 29th in drive time, 23rd in plays, and 21st in yards, but 12th in points.
This team is middle of the pack on third down and in the top third in red zone percentage, but this team is not as great on offense as they seem to be.
The Vikings have been much more impressive on defense, but still, this unit leaves a lot to be desired. This team is 9th in third-down percentage, but they are 31st in red zone percentage, meaning they allow the 2nd most conversions in the red zone in the league. On a per-drive basis, the Vikings are 12th in drive time, 12th in plays, 23rd in yards, and 15th in points.
Dallas Getting It Done On Defense
The Cowboys are coming off a tough loss, but they are one of the better teams in the NFC. This team is great defensively, but even with Dak Prescott, their offense is leaving a lot to be desired.
Dak Prescott is healthy now, but the Cowboys’ offense is not rocking and rolling. On a per-drive basis, the Cowboys’ offense is 14th in drive start time, 30th in drive time, 27th in plays, 22nd in yards, and 17th in plays.
The Cowboys excel in the red zone, but on third down, they are 25th in the NFL. Dak currently is throwing 6.7 yards per attempt which is not great and this offense needs to step it up for the Cowboys to be in serious playoff consideration.
The Cowboys’ defense is one of the best in the NFL and it has kept this team afloat so far this year. On a per-drive basis, this defense is 8th in yards allowed and 7th in points allowed. The Cowboys are one of the best teams in generating pressure in the NFL and they frequently make life miserable for opposing quarterbacks.
Minnesota Vikings vs Dallas Cowboys Prediction
This game is closely priced and evenly matched. The Cowboys and the Vikings are two of the better team in the NFC, but they also both leave a lot to be desired. Neither team is significantly better than the other in any aspect, but I believe the edge lies with the Vikings.
Prediction: Minnesota Vikings +1.5
