Virginia vs Duke Analysis
Duke heads to Virginia, looking to avenge their loss earlier this season on their home court, in this exciting ACC battle!
Duke continues to win and stay hot, fighting for one of the top seeds in March’s tournament. Duke is currently #7 in the nation in the most recent AP pool, but they sit atop the standings in the ACC.
Virginia comes in at #6 in the ACC, with an 11-6 record in conference play.
Duke Does it All
Duke is and impressive 23-4 so far this season, with 3 of those losses coming in conference play, while the sole non-conference loss was against Ohio State.
This Duke team can seemingly do it all, they are top 25 offensive and defensively, which has led to a scoring average of over 80 PPG on the year, while allowing just 65.3 PPG to the opponents.
They are 6-2 on the road this season, and winning by nearly double digits on average, thanks to their 47% shooting away from home! They have also cashed in on 9 out of the last 10 games, closing out the season on a hot streak. Which they are going to need to do to continue the push for a top seed in this years tournament.
We all know Paolo Banchero is ready to come out swinging, the potential player of the year hopefully has been as hot as it gets this season and this 6’10’’ freshman has to be rearing to make a difference in the postseason, and the games leading up to it.
Virginia Viscous on Defense at Home
Virginia may be 6th in the conference at the moment, but their 11-6 record is nothing to be ashamed of, especially when with those big wins over teams like Duke and Miami (FL).
They are 17-10 on the year overall, and while their offense is putting up just 63.4 PPG this season, their defense has been impressive, holding teams to just 60 PPG on average.
Virginia has been very impressive this year on their home court, they have posted a 10-4 record at home, putting up just 64 PPG, but holding opponents to an astounding 56.6 PPG! Winning the games at home by an average of 7.4 points (yet not quite enough to cover the 11 point line on average).
Their defense has performed like that for most of the year, they are holding teams to over 11 points less than their season average on the year. This helped take down Duke the first time, and has helped them get to the point that they are at this season, cashing in on 5 of the last 6 games overall.
Virginia vs Duke Prediction
Duke needs a convincing win here to increase their chances of earning a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and a win in general to keep pace as the leaders of the ACC.
Prediction: Duke -5
