Washington vs Cal Poly Analysis
Washington stumbles into tonight’s matchup against Cal Poly having lost two of their last three games. The Mustangs are looking to pull the outright upset as 12-point underdogs and winning their last four games outright.
In two of those games they were underdogs as they look to make some noise in the Big West Conference this season. Let’s see if they can make some noise in Seattle tonight as they play their first and only game this regular season against a Power 5 school.
Cal Poly Containing Opposing Offenses
Cal Poly’s defense has really come together over the last four games allowing only 58 points per game over that 4-0 stretch. They’re 128th nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency, 51st in turnover rate and 39th in allowing offensive rebounds to the opposition.
On the offensive end of the ball they’re led by senior forward Alimony Koroma averaging 13 points and 5 rebounds per game while shooting 59% from the field.
He’s accompanied by junior guard Brantly Stevenson who has put up two 20+ point efforts in the last three games while averaging 10 points per game on the season.
The statistic that sets themselves apart from Washington though is ranking 26th in minutes continuity where the Huskies rank 214th.
Huskies Have Height Down Low
With how good Cal Poly is on defense, the Huskies are that much better ranking 53rd in adjusted defensive efficiency, 52nd in effective field goal percentage allowed, 9th in 3pt field goal percentage allowed and and 6th in block percentage.
This Huskies team is full of size led by a pair of 7-footers who each average 20+ minutes of playing time per game in Franck Kepnang and Braxton Meah.
These two have combined for 26 of the 59 blocks this season for the Huskies and they’ll be looking to add to that total tonight. Keion Brooks continues to lead Washington on the offensive end averaging 16.3 points and 7 rebounds per game while also adding a block and a steal as well.
Washington vs Cal Poly Prediction
You can see where I’m going with my play as both of these teams have excelled on the defensive side of the ball this season.
With the total listed at 128.5 I encourage a play on the under as Cal Poly knows they’ll have to play slow in order to compete with the Huskies, but with how stout Washington has been on defense this season, It’s hard to think the Mustangs will break 60 in this one with a final score around 65-52.
Prediction: Under 128.5 Points Scored
