Atlanta Braves vs St Louis Cardinals Analysis
On Thursday night, the Cardinals and Braves face off for the series finale of a four-game series. The Braves have won all three games so far and they took last night’s game 3-0. The Cardinals have been coming back down to Earth after a hot stretch in June and they are looking to bounce back today.
Failing to Fly
The Cardinals are on a five-game losing streak and they have had a rough go the past couple of weeks. St. Louis is 3-7 in their last 10 games and they are now three games behind the Brewers for first place in the NL Central. The Cardinals are 44-40 on the season, they are 20-24 on the road, and they are 22-19 covering the run line as an underdog this season.
Matthew Liberatore will make the start for the Cardinals tonight in Atlanta. Liberatore is 2-1 on the season in five starts with a 5.66 ERA, a 5.48 FIP, and a 1.79 WHIP. IN his last two starts, Liberatore allowed five runs on 10 hits over just 7.2 innings of work. In 10.2 innings of work on the road, Liberatore has a 10.97 ERA, an 8.36 FIP, and a 2.44 WHIP. The Braves have a .767 team OPS at home this season and a .793 OPS against lefties.
The Defending Champs
The Braves have cut the Mets’ lead to 2.5 games in the NL East and they have been playing some of the best baseball in the Majors. Atlanta is 7-3 in their last 10 games and they have outscored opponents by 15 runs. The Braves are 27-17 at home and 32-30 covering the run line as favorites this season.
Spencer Strider will make the start for the Braves tonight at home. Strider is 4-2 on the season with a 2.87 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, and a 2.00 FIP in seven starts. In his last three starts, Strider has allowed seven runs on 12 hits over 15.2 innings of work. In 28.1 innings pitched at home, Strider has a 3.81 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, and a 1.66 FIP. The Cardinals have a team OPS of .708 on the road and .715 against lefties. .
Atlanta Braves vs St Louis Cardinals Prediction
The Cardinals have been bad these past two weeks and they are running into a hot pitcher. The Braves are better than the Cardinals, for sure, but should they actually be -235 favorites?!
Libertore inspires no confidence for the Cardinals and they look like a defeated team right now. I like the outlook for the over on this game, but I would wait to see if the first inning goes scoreless to get a better number.
Recommendation: Live bet the over if it goes as low as 8 runs.
