Cardinals vs Padres Analysis
On Tuesday night, the Padres and Cardinals face off for the second game of a three-game series. Tonight is just the second time these two teams will face off this season and the Cardinals won game one 6-3.
The Cardinals are -120 home favorites for this matchup, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 8.5 runs.
Padres Preview
The Padres have been without star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. all season long and they have not missed a beat. San Diego is 30-18 on the season and they sit in second place in the NL West. The Padres are 17-8 away from home and they boast a team ERA of 3.44.
Blake Snell will make the start for the Padres tonight. The former Cy Young winner was injured and missed a solid chunk of the season, but he has made his last two starts.
Snell allowed three runs and just three hits in both starts, but the Padres lost both games. Snell is looking to prove he still has gas left in the tank, and he has to do so against a Cardinals lineup that has a league-best .827 OPS vs lefties.
Cardinals Preview
The Cardinals are red hot and are 7-3 in their last 10 games. St. Louis is 27-21 on the season and they sit four games behind the Brewers for the top spot in the NL Central. St. Louis is just 14-11 at home this season.
Veteran Adam Wainwright will make the start for St. Louis tonight. This will be Wainwright’s 10th start of the season. So far this year, Wainwright has a 3.12 ERA, a 4.02 FIP, and a 1.29 WHIP.
Wainwright has now allowed more than four runs in a start so far this season and he allowed three earned runs in his last start.
Wainwright leaves 80% of runners on the bases and opponents bat .281 on balls in play vs Wainwright. The Padres have a .646 OPS vs right-handed pitchers this season.
Cardinals vs Padres Prediction
I like the way both of these teams have been playing lately and I think the Padres should hang in there against the Cardinals tonight.
The Padres are great on the road, and as +110 road dogs, there is value on the Padres moneyline. Wainwright’s season has been overrated and Snell looks like he is coming back to form.
I like the Padres moneyline for this matchup. For more bets on Tuesday’s packed MLB slate, check out my full Tuesday MLB card on Sportsmemo.
