Chicago Cubs vs St. Louis Cardinals Analysis
After sweeping the San Diego Padres at home, the Cardinals travel to Chicago to take on their divisional rival the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs are coming off a series split vs the Brewers and the Cubs won the last two games.
This is the first time these two teams are meeting this season. For this matchup, the odds are even and both teams are -110. The run line is 1.5 and the total is set at 8 runs.
St. Louis Cardinals Betting Preview
St. Louis has cut their deficit in the NL Central standings to just two games. St. Louis is 29-21 on the season and is 13-10 on the road this year. The Cardinals are on a three-game win streak and are 7-3 in their last 10 games.
Matthew Liberatore, a 22-year-old lefty, will make his third start of the season for the Cardinals tonight. St. Louis is 2-0 in games he has pitched and Liberatore got the win in his last start against the Brewers.
On the season, Liberatore has gone 9.2 innings allowing four runs on nine hits with four walks. His ERA is a 3.72, his FIP is a 4.18, and his WHIP is 1.45.
Chicago Cubs Betting Preview
The Cubs split their last series against the Brewers and ended up winning the final two games of a four-game series.
The Cubs are 5-5 in their last 10 games and they have been outscored by opponents by four runs. Chicago is 21-29 this season and they are just 9-17 when playing at Wrigley Field.
Keegan Thompson will make the start for the Cubs tonight. Despite starting just three games, Thompson is 5-0 on the season and the Cubs are 8-3 when Thompson is involved in the action.
Thompson has a 1.58 ERA, a 3.49 FIP, and a 1.03 WHIP. The three losses in games Thompson has pitched this season all came at home. In his last two starts, Thompson has gone 10 innings allowing three runs on nine hits with just one walk.
Chicago Cubs vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction
With two pitchers with limited starting experience taking the mound today, it is hard to project which team will come out on top.
Bookmakers certainly agree since they have this game priced out at even odds. I do not love a side or a total in this game, but I would advise bettors to look to take the Cardinals at plus money if the Cubs score first.
Chicago has a weak bullpen and the Cardinals are still the better team here. For my full card today, check out my handicapper profile on Sportsmemo.
