New York Mets vs Chicago Cubs Analysis
On Monday night, the Mets and the Cubs face off for a three-game series. The Cubs are coming off a 2-1 series loss against the Giants, and the Mets are coming off a 2-1 series win against the Marlins.
In four games played this season, the Mets lead the season series 3-1. For this matchup, the Mets are -300 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 8 runs.
Trades For Assets Not Paying Off For Cubs
The Cubs are going to miss the playoffs this year. They did not have a great season, and they were not expected to.
Chicago decided to sell away their top assets and start from scratch, and wins did not follow. The Cubs are 58-82, they are 28-40 on the road this season, and they are 57-43 covering the run line as underdogs this year.
Javier Assad will make the start for the Cubs tonight on the road against the Mets. This will be Assad’s fourth start of the season. Through three starts and one relief appearance, Assad has a 2.93 ERA, a 4.62 FIP, and a 1.43 WHIP.
In his first two starts, Assad did not allow a single run and he allowed just four hits in both of those games. In his last start against the Reds, Assad allowed four runs on five hits in 5.1 innings of work in a Cubs loss. Assad has the makings of a good pitcher, but being just 25 years old, he still has a long way to go.
Bassitt Beating Competition at Home
The Mets have the Braves breathing down their neck in the NL East race, so they are continuing to play great baseball. New York is 17-13 in their last 30 games and they are a lock for the postseason.
The question remains if they will win the NL East, or be the top Wild Card team. The Mets are 89-52 on the season and they are 46-23 at home.
Chris Bassitt will make the start for the Mets tonight at home against the Cubs. Bassitt is 13-7 with a 3.24 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, and a 3.40 FIP. In his last start, Bassitt allowed one run on five hits in seven innings in a win against the Pirates.
At home this season, Bassitt has a 2.77 ERA, a .227 batting average against, a 1.07 WHIP, and a 3.01 FIP. Bassitt has been great for the Mets this season and he will look to shut down a shaky Cubs offense tonight at home.
New York Mets vs Chicago Cubs Prediction
I cannot lay -300 on any team, so I will look to the run line instead. The Mets have a much better team and they need all the wins they can get.
I expect New York to come out hot and I expect the Cubs to roll over. The Mets do not do great against pitchers they see for the first time, but I think they will break that streak tonight. Take the Mets -1.5.
Prediction: New York Mets -1.5 -140
