Miami Marlins vs Texas Rangers Analysis
The Rangers and the Marlins have a doubleheader scheduled for today, and we will be focusing on the second of two games between these teams. The Rangers won the only outing these teams had against each other this season.
If the Rangers win game one of the doubleheader, they win the season series. If the Marlins win game one, the second game is for all the marbles. For game two of the doubleheader today, the Rangers are -120 road favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 7 runs.
Gray Getting Lit Up
The Rangers have had a solid season, but they will not be playing playoff baseball this year. Texas is 60-79 on the season, they are 13-17 in their last 30 games, and they are 31-39 playing on the road.
The Rangers will look to build momentum for next season against a Marlins team that will not make the playoffs either.
Jon Gray will make the start for the Rangers tonight in Miami. On the season, Gray is 7-6 with a 3.83 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and a 3.49 FIP. In his last two starts, Gray has not looked sharp. He allowed four runs in each of those starts in games that the Rangers ended up losing.
In his last start, Gray was chased after just 1.1 innings of work. On the road this season, Gray has been a slightly better pitcher. He has a 3.91 ERA, a .222 batting average against, a 3.71 FIP, and a 1.21 WHIP.
Marlins Try To Make Most Of Solid Pitching Staff
The Marlins are not making the playoffs either, and it is a shame since their pitching staff was solid this year. The Marlins’ inability to score runs has doomed them, and they will be playing out this season to hopefully build momentum for the next. The Marlins are 57-82 overall and they are 27-40 at home this year.
Lefty Braxton Garrett will make the start for the Marlins tonight at home. Garrett is 2-6 with a 3.67 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and a 3.47 FIP. Despite his record, Garrett has been good this season.
In his last start, he allowed no runs on five hits in six innings against the Braves. At home this season, Garrett has a 2.45 ERA, a .240 batting average against, a 2,69 FIP, and a 1.29 WHIP.
Miami Marlins vs Texas Rangers Prediction
For this matchup, I have to go with the Marlins +1.5. Garrett has been so good at home and Miami is capable of keeping games close.
Gray will probably shut down their lineup, but that is fine since the Marlins are used to 3-2 games. Take the fish with the points.
Prediction: Miami Marlins +1.5 -155
