Texas Rangers at Boston Red Sox Analysis
On Thursday night, the Rangers and the Red Sox begin a four-game series at Fenway Park. The Rangers are coming off being swept in a two-game series by the Astros, and the Red Sox are coming off a 2-1 series loss against the Twins.
These teams played each other earlier this season in Texas, and the Red Sox won two of those three games. For this matchup, Boston is a -170 hone favorite, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 9 runs.
Too Late For Rangers Rally
The Rangers are out of the hunt in the AL Wild Card, but they can still play spoiler for teams looking to make a push. Texas is 13-17 in their last 30 games and they are 5-5 in their last 10 games. On the season, the Rangers are 58-71, they are 30-33 on the road, and they are 54-26 covering the run line as an underdog.
Righty Glenn Otto will make the start for the Rangers tonight at Fenway. In 20 starts this season, Otto has a 4.79 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP, and a 5.29 FIP. Otto faced Boston at home in May, and he allowed eight runs on eight hits in four innings of work in a Rangers loss.
In his last three starts, Otto has allowed six runs on 10 hits in 16.2 innings of work. On the road this season, Otto has been much better. In 51 innings, he has a 3.53 ERA, a .314 slugging percentage against, a .211 batting average against, a 4.79 FIP, and a 1.27 WHIP.
Hill Still Slinging It
For a moment, it looked like the Red Sox were going to make a push for the playoffs. Boston has dropped to below .500 and they are 13-17 in their last 30 games.
On the season, the Red Sox are 63-69, they are 31-34 at home, and they are 28-37 covering the run line as a favorite. In their last 10 games, Boston is 3-7 and they have been outscored by 19 runs.
Rich Hill will make the start for the Red Sox at home against the Rangers. In 19 starts this season, Hill is 6-5 with a 4.32 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and a 4.00 FIP. Hill faced the Rangers in Texas back in May and he allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings in a Red Sox win.
In his last two starts, Hill has allowed just two runs on six hits in 12 innings pitched. At home this season, Hill has a 5.34 ERA, a .520 slugging percentage against, a 4.52 FIP, and a 1.42 WHIP.
Texas Rangers at Boston Red Sox Prediction
Both of these pitchers have high FIPs, and both of these offenses can get hot, so I expect a lot of runs in this game. Hill has been great, and Otto has not been, but each team is pitching to their strengths tonight. I would ride with over nine runs and I expect a close game between these two teams tonight.
Prediction: Over 9 Runs Scored -110
