Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Mets Analysis
On Thursday afternoon, the Mets and Dodgers face off for the final game of a three-game series. The Dodgers took game one 4-3, and the Mets one last night behind an excellent pitching performance from Jacob deGrom.
The season series between these two teams is split 3-3, so tonight is a winner take all scenario. For this matchup, the Dodgers are -130 road favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 7.5 runs.
Dodgers Welcome Kershaw Back
The Dodgers have the best record in the Majors in their last 30 games, and they are the only MLB to eclipse 90 wins at this point in the season.
The Dodgers are 90-39, 45-23 on the road, and 77-47 covering the run line as a favorite. In their last 10 games, the Dodgers are 7-3 and they have outscored their opponents by 29 runs.
Clayton Kershaw will make the start for the Dodgers this afternoon at Citi Field. On the season, Kershaw is 7-3 in 15 stars with a 2.64 ERA, a 2.72 FIP, and a .98 WHIP. This will be Kershaw’s first start since August 8th. In his last start, Kershaw allowed two runs on three hits in four innings of work.
On the road this year, Kershaw is pitching to a 2.50 ERA, a .306 slugging percentage against, a .215 batting average against, a 2.98 FIP, and a .97 WHIP. The Dodgers are 6-3 in his road starts this season and they are 6-3 covering the run line in those starts as well.
Bassitt Is Money In The Bank At Home
The Mets are 19-11 in their last 30 games which is the fifth best in the Majors. On the season, New York is 83-49, they are 44-21 at home, and they are 19-15 covering the run line as an underdog.
New York has just a three-game lead in the NL East, so they need a big win tonight to help maintain the top spot in their division.
Chris Bassitt will make the start for the Mets tonight at home. In 24 starts this season, Bassitt is 11-7 with a 3.34 ERA, a 3.53 FIP, and a 1.13 WHIP. Bassitt pitched against the Dodgers back in June, and he allowed four runs on five hits in six innings of work in a Mets’ loss.
In his last two starts, Bassitt has allowed six runs on 15 hits over 13.1 innings pitched. At home this season, Bassitt has a 2.75 ERA, a .224 batting average against, a 2.99 FIP, and a 1.04 WHIP. The Mets are 8-5 in Bassitt’s home starts this season, but they are just 4-9 covering the run line in those 13 starts.
Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Mets Prediction
The Mets’ struggles against left-handed pitching have been apparent all series long, and today they have to face one of the best left-handed pitchers in MLB history.
This will be Kershaws’ first start in about a month, but I expect him to get right back to it. The Dodgers are the better team here, and ad just a -140 price, they are too good to pass up.
Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers Moneyline -140
