Los Angeles Lakers vs Philadelphia 76ers Preview
The Los Angeles Lakers travel to Philadelphia to take on the 76ers who are 12-3 in their last 15 games. The Lakers on the other hand keep trying to move up from the bottom of the playoff picture in the Western Conference but just can’t seem to get it going, even with LeBron James averaging over 30 ppg in January so far. With the return of Anthony Davis the Lakers finally hope to get it going and make the climb in the Western Conference.
Lakers Treading Water
Anthony Davis’ return was a quiet one accumulating only eight points, two rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes of action against the Nets. The Lakers are in the middle of a six game east coast trip in which they are 2-1 so far. Russell Westbrook continues to be a head-scratcher for the Lakers as the trend seems to be that his scoring and turnover rate go hand-in-hand.
He’s only averaged two turnovers per game in his last seven games but has only been able to produce 16 ppg which is seven points lower than his career average. The Lakers still have something to prove to the rest of the league and will look to play far above their current standing for the rest of the season if they don’t want to end up in the playoff play-in games again like last year.
Sixers in Stride Without Simmons
The Sixers have done a great job not letting the Ben Simmons buzz distract them in which they are 28-19 on the season, good for 6th in the Eastern Conference today. Their underrated defense has led them to that spot only allowing 105 ppg which is good for 8th in the league.
Joel Embiid continues to make a push for the MVP given he stays healthy the rest of the season which has been a problem in the past. Let the good times keep rolling though as he’s been on fire as of late averaging 37 points and 12 rebounds per game in his last seven. Other supporting players on the team have been solid including Tobias Harris (18.6 ppg), Tyrese Maxey (16.6 ppg) and Seth Curry (15.8 ppg). Curry will be out of this one though along with role players Danny Green and Shake Milton.
Los Angeles Lakers vs Philadelphia 76ers Prediction
This nationally televised game is sure to bring out the best of the superstars in this one. James and Embiid have always loved playing in the spotlight and this will be an entertaining game to watch.
Anthony Davis is officially listed as day-to-day after making his debut which may just be a precautionary move in case they want to slowly ease him back into an every game player. Keep an eye on his status approaching game time but assuming he plays, Take the Lakers +2.5 on the road.

Los Angeles Lakers vs Philadelphia 76ers Notes from GoldSheet
The return of Anthony Davis a bit of a lifeline for the Lakers, as defense has been one of the main problems with LA this season, and Davis is a deterrent to anyone driving the paint when he’s in the game, and having an additional scorer helps as well.
Philadelphia has been reliant on C Joel Embiid, who’s inserted himself in the MVP conversation by scoring 29 ppg, 11 rpg and shooting 50%. In this game, the presence of Davis coupled with the absence of Sixer G Seth Curry (16 ppg, 51% FGs; out again with an ankle injury) will help the Lakers chances. Still, Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and PF Tobias Harris give Philly a trio that can stand up to the Lakers’ LeBron James, AD and Russell Westbrook.
Frankly, Philly is not a great team to play at the Wells Fargo Center, where they have a 5-11 spread record in last 16 and are 4-8 in last 12 as any kind of a favorite. With Davis owning the length and athletic ability to contest the paint against Embiid and the offensive ability to draw the defensive attention of the Sixer big man, AD’s presence means more against this team than many others.
