The Washington Nationals are on the west coast for their weekend set against the Oakland A’s. The home team took Game One on Friday night winning 2 to 1 in a close fought battle. Today the Nationals will send Mackenzie Gore to the bump with his 1-0 SU record and his ERA of 4.89 in eleven innings of work. He has averaged more than one strikeout per inning with twelve total strikeouts to this point. Gore did well in his most recent start winning against the Philadelphia Phillies giving up two runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. The A’s will send Joe Boyle to the mound with his 1-1 SU record and his ERA of 8.22 on the young season. Boyle struggled in his opener but bounced back in his second trip to the bump tossing five shutout innings allowing just two hits, three walks and six strikeouts in his win over the Tigers. The Nationals come into this contest with a 2-7 Under record in their last nine trips to the diamond while the A’s are 1-6-1 Under their last seven. Even though the two starters have questionable ERA’s when considering a play on the low side we look at their most recent outings and the fact that neither of these teams are offensive juggernaut’s. Washington is 15th in the majors with a .242 team batting average on the road this season while Oakland is 25th at home with a .202 team batting average. Our TPR Index projects a run total of 5.91 runs. The SPMatrix has MacKenzie Gore with an average of 5.89 compared to Joe Boyle who has an average of 5.14. The SIM Matrix has the Under with a 73.94 percent advantage versus the oddsmakers total in today’s contest. Play UNDER MLB home underdogs coming off an extra inning game in which they used five or more pitchers, 45-61-6 UNDER. We will play this total to finish on the low side of the oddsmakers number on Saturday afternoon.
