NFL | (251) New England Patriots at (252) Miami Dolphins | 1:00pm EDT - Sep 14/2025 |
The PLAY: New England Patriots +1.5 (-120)
I lost with the Patriots in Week 1. New England allowed Geno Smith to have a big game and lost 20-13. While it turned out to be a bad pick, the Pats did have some positives. That's more than the Dolphins can say; Miami was pounded 33-8 by the Colts. Indianapolis outgained Miami by a whopping 418 yards to 211 yards. The Colts basically doubled the Dolphins in yards on the ground and in yards through the air. Though it's never wise to over-react to one game, the Dolphins showed some disturbing signs. Both teams will be fighting to avoid starting 0-2. I like New England's chances of finishing on top.
In addition to being the reigning overall football champion, Ben Burns is the #1 NFL Handicapper since 2022.

CFB | (125) Wisconsin at (126) Alabama | 12:00pm EDT - Sep 13/2025 |
The PLAY: Alabama -21.0 (-108)
Reports of Alabama's demise were greatly exaggerated. Off their embarrassing Week 1 loss against Florida State, the Crimson Tide responded by smashing UL-Monroe 73-0. The Tide racked up nearly 600 yards of offense while allowing less than 150. I had Alabama in that game (See below) and I'm expecting another big effort from the Tide on Saturday afternoon.
Here's what I said of Alabama before last week's blowout win: UL Monroe is at the wrong place, at the wrong time. Off last week's loss and having had to listen all week about how their effort wasn't there, the Crimson Tide are going to be angry and looking to make a statement. New coach DeBoer noted: "Play with an edge, too, right? We've got something to prove. There's obviously a piece of it where, this weekend, we fell short of what we feel like we're capable of doing, what our potential is. So, go out there and prove it … " They've got mismatches all over the field and I see the Tide keeping the pedal to the metal the entire way. *good up to -37
Alabama secured a 42-10 victory at Wisconsin last season as a 14-point road favorite, knocking out Badgers’ starting QB Tyler Van Dyke early, leaving their offense struggling. Wisconsin’s QB Danny O’Neil, who played as a true freshman at San Diego State last year, faces an extremely difficult test against Alabama’s defense. His toughest game last season was against Boise State, where he completed 14 of 30 passes for 155 yards and threw two interceptions. Now in a new system and on the road facing a loaded Bama defense, one which is coming off a shutout while allowing only nine first downs, expect Wisconsin’s offense to struggle. *Bama by more than three touchdowns
Ben Burns, SportsMemo's reigning football champion, is coming off a 3-0 sweep with his college football.

MLB | (951) Pittsburgh Pirates at (952) Washington Nationals | 6:45pm EDT - Sep 12/2025 |
The PLAY: Pittsburgh Pirates -108 M Keller (RHP), B Lord (RHP) Must Start
I'm of the opinion that Keller is better than his 6-14 record suggests. Last time out, he lost against the Brewers. However, he only allowed two runs in 6 ⅓ innings, just five hits and zero walks. In his previous start, he allowed 0 earned runs through five complete innings at Fenway, striking out seven, yet still found a way to suffer the loss. Through 13 road starts, he's got a very solid 1.14 WHIP, opposing hitters batting .229. While he's off a solid effort at Wrigley, Lord is 1-4 with a 5.23 ERA and 1.44 WHIP at home. I'm going with Keller.
Ben Burns is the reigning football champion. He's #1 at football since the start of 2023 and also since the start of 2024. Big weekend coming up!
