Pittsburgh Pirates vs Milwaukee Brewers Analysis
On Wednesday night, the Brewers and Pirates square off for the second game of a three-game series. The Pirates won game one 5-3, but the Brewers lead the season series 9-5.
For game two of this series, the Brewers will send Freddy Peralta to the mound and the Pirates will send Tyler Beede. For this matchup, the Brewers are -210 favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 8.5.
Peralta Keen On Pirates
The Brewers made some interesting trades for a team that is currently in first place in the division. Milwaukee gave up Josh Hader but they were able to recoup other bullpen pieces in the trade market.
Milwaukee is 57-46 on the season, they are 31-26 on the road, and they are 30-51 covering the run line as a favorite. In their last 10 games, the Brewers are 7-3.
Freddy Peralta will take the mound for Milwaukee tonight in Pittsburgh. Peralta has been injured, and he is 3-2 on the season. He will be making his first start since 5/22. Peralta pitched against the Pirates on 4/28 and he allowed no runs through six innings with three hits and seven Ks.
Peralta was solid before his injury and the Brewers need him to be great to make a run in the NL down the stretch. In his two rehab starts, Peralta went 5.1 innings allowing two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts. The Pirates have a team OPS of .660 at home this season.
Pirates Look To Play Spoiler Rest Of Way
The Pirates are all but eliminated from the playoffs this season, but that does not mean that they cannot play spoiler for other teams in their division.
Pittsburgh is 41-62 on the season, they are 22-29 at home, and they are 47-42 covering the run line as an underdog. In their last 10 games, Pittsburgh is 2-8 with one of the wins coming last night against Milwaukee.
Tyler Beede will make the start for the Pirates tonight at home. Beede is a reliever and he is making his first start of the season. Beede threw two innings against the Brewers on 7/3 and allowed no baserunners in his two innings of work.
Beede will probably pitch three innings absolutely max tonight, so the Pirates will need to rely on their bullpen to shut down this hot Brewers lineup. At home this season, Beede has a 3.20 ERA, a 3.83 FIP, and a 1.37 WHIP. The Brewers have the 7th best team OPS in the Majors on the road this year.
Pittsburgh Pirates vs Milwaukee Brewers Prediction
I do not expect Peralta to throw a ton of innings tonight since it is his first start of the IL. Peralta was great on the road pre-injury, and the Brewers are in must-win mode. I like Beede for the Pirates, but I do not think their bullpen can hold the Brewers down all game long.
Prediction: Milwaukee Brewers Run Line (-1.5) -130
