Colorado Rockies at Atlanta Braves Analysis
On Wednesday night, the Braves and the Rockies face off in the second game of a three-game series. The Rockies took game one last night 3-2 behind an excellent performance from their starting pitcher and their bullpen.
The Braves still lead the season series against the Rockies 4-1. For this matchup, the Braves are -335 home favorites, the run line can be found at -1.5 and +2.5, and the total is set at 8 runs.
Feltner Falling Apart
The Rockies are in last place in the NL West, but they can still play spoiler late in the season. Colorado is 56-74, they are 20-42 on the road, but they are 60-44 covering the run line as an underdog. In their last 10 games, the Rockies are 5-5 with a .265 team batting average and a 4.80 team ERA.
Ryan Feltner will make his 13th start of the season tonight in Atlanta. Feltner pitched against the Braves at home on 6/5 and allowed six runs on seven hits in just three innings of work.
In his last two starts, Feltner has allowed four runs on eight hits in 10.2 innings of work. While Feltner calls Coors Field, the best ballpark for hitters, home, he is actually worse on the road this season.
In his road starts, Feltner has a 6.19 ERA, a .308 batting average against, a .508 slugging percentage against, a 4.78 FIP, and a 1.53 WHIP. The Rockies are 0-7 when he takes the mound on the road and the least amount of runs the Rockies have let up is three.
Braves Need to Bounce Back
The Braves are cooling down slightly, but they are still one of the hottest teams in baseball over the last month. In August, the Braves have a 20-10 record.
They are still three games behind the Mets in the NL East, but they can win the division if they win games like tonight against a worse team. Atlanta is 42-25 at home and they are 53-48 covering the run line as a favorite this season.
Kyle Wright will make the start for Atlanta tonight at home. In 24 starts this year, Wright is 16-5 with a 2.99 ERA, a 3.56 FIP, and a 1.13 WHIP. In his last three starts, Wright has allowed just three runs on 14 hits in 19 innings of work.
At home this season, Wright is pitching to a 3.05 ERA, a .225 batting average against, a 1.10 WHIP, and a 3.45 FIP. The Rockies are 28th in the MLB in OPS on the road and they are 16th in OPS in August.
Colorado Rockies at Atlanta Braves Prediction
It is impossible to back the Rockies here, so this game becomes a question of how to bet on the Braves. Given the matchup and the pricing, I would just take the Braves -1.5 tonight. Atlanta needs a bounce-back win, they are facing a weak pitcher, and they have a stud on the mound.
Prediction: Atlanta Braves Runline -1.5 -145
