Oakland Athletics at Washington Nationals Analysis
On Wednesday night, the Nationals and the Athletics face off in the second game of a three-game series. The Athletics won last night 10-6 in a game featuring firepower from both offenses.
This is the only time these two teams will play each other this season, so if the A’s win tonight, they will win the season series. This matchup is even, and depending on which sports book you look at, you will see a different team favored. The total is 8.5 runs.
Oakland Is On To Something
It is no secret that the A’s are one of the worst teams in baseball, but it helps when you are playing a team that is arguably worse than you. The A’s are 49-81. They are 27-38 on the road, but as a favorite, they are just 3-10 covering the run line. Oakland is 6-4 in their last 10 games with a 3.73 team ERA.
James Kaprielian will make the start for the A’s tonight in Washington DC. Kaprielian is 3-8 on the season with a 4.88 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and a 5.23 FIP. In his last start, he was rocked against the Yankees and was pulled after allowing eight runs in just 2.2 innings of work.
Kaprielian hasn’t gone more than six innings in a game all season long. On the road this year, Kaprelian has a 4.08 ERA, a .233 batting average against, a 4.92 FIP, and a 1.26 WHIP. The A’s are 7-4 in his road starts this season.
Sanchez Struggling This Season
The Nationals have the worst record in baseball and they also have the worst run differential in the sport. Washington is 43-86, they are 20-47 at home, and they are 51-59 covering the run line as an underdog this season. The Nationals are 4-6 in their last 10 games and they have been outscored by eight runs.
Anibal Sanchez will make the start for Washington at home tonight. Sanchez is 0-5 on the season with a 5.72 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP, and a 6.86 FIP. In his last start, he allowed no runs on two hits in 4.1 innings of work.
In the start before that, he allowed just one run on one hit in five innings of work. It has been rougher for Sanchez at home this season. In 20 innings pitched at home, Sanchez has a 7.65 ERA, a .557 slugging percentage against, a 7.83 FIP, and a 1.55 WHIP.
Oakland Athletics at Washington Nationals Prediction
There are a lot of ways to view this game, but I am taking the Athletics. Simply put, they have the better pitcher going tonight, they have a better overall team, and my numbers are pointing to them taking the win tonight. Sanchez was impressive in his last start while Kaprelian was not, but I think tonight turns the tables a little bit.
Prediction: Oakland Athletics Moneyline -105
