Boise State vs Nevada Analysis
With a win tonight over the Wolfpack, Boise State will essentially have the Mountain West Conference regular season championship wrapped up.
They’ve looked impressive since their overtime loss to Colorado State on February 13 winning their previous four games by an average of 12 points per game.
Nevada has lost two straight to Wyoming and UNLV after they had won three straight. The last time these two met in Reno, the Broncos came away with a 85-70 win.
Nevada has been one of the worst teams against the spread this season going 8-18 so far. Boise State is 15-13 against the spread.
Broncos Baffling Opposing Offenses
The Broncos head into this one as 10 point favorites playing a slow, solid, efficient offense which has paired nicely with their top 20 defense as far as adjusted defensive efficiency is concerned.
They’re also top 10 in the country in points per game against, limiting opponents to 60. The Broncos at one point had won 14 games straight but their offense overall on the season has been a little above average.
They’re 86th nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency but in close games is where you have to worry about the Broncos as they rank 350th in the country in free throw shooting percentage at 63.8%.
They roll out a very experienced starting line up led by senior forward Abu Kigab generating over 14 points and 6 rebounds while shooting it at over 49%.
He also chips in over two assists and a steal or two a game as well. He surprises some from downtown every now and then as well as in their last game against UNLV he went 3-4 from deep.
Woeful Wolfpack Wind Down Season
The Wolfpack will try and speed this game up hopefully fast enough to take the Broncos out of their comfort zone.
Although it didn’t work well last time these two played, Nevada is in the top half of the country in adjusted offensive efficiency. Where the Wolfpack struggle on defense is defending the three pointer.
They rank 289th in three point field goal percentage allowed and almost dead last in rate opponents shoot the three against them.
In their last game out against Wyoming, they allowed the Cowboys to shoot it 28 times from three. Junior guard Grant Sherfield continues to lead the struggling Wolfpack in scoring (18.4 PPG) and assists (6.5 APG).
His assists per game are fourth in the country. He also shoots it at over 87% from the free throw line. So, it will be essential for him to drive inside without getting blocked and drawing multiple fouls on Boise State big men.
Boise State vs Nevada Prediction
Boise State is locked and loaded to claim the Mountain West Conference regular season championship for the first time 2015 when they shared it with San Diego State.
I think their defense does enough to shut down Sherfield and the rest of the Wolfpack en route to a double digit win.
Prediction: Boise State -10
