Colorado State vs San Diego State Analysis
If you’re looking for a slow paced game with high defensive intensity this San Diego State vs Colorado State game is the one for you.
Both teams are coming off very low scoring wins yesterday with the Aztecs beating Fresno State 53-46 and Colorado State beating Utah State 53-51.
With conference tournaments in general already seeing better defense, this could be a race to 55 for the win tonight. One of these two will play the winner of the Boise State vs Wyoming game happening prior to this one.
All four teams left involved in the Mountain West Tournament though should make the NCAA Tournament come Selection Sunday.
San Diego State Provides Stiff Defense
In the Aztecs win yesterday they allowed star player Orlando Robinson to drop 25 on them but contained everyone else as Fresno State’s second leading scorer only had six points.
The Aztecs two leading scorers each had 11 points and each came off the bench in Chad Baker-Mazara and Adam Seiko who only average a combined 11 points per game on the season.
Leading scorer Matt Bradley only scored seven and coughed the ball up six times. If the Aztecs want to win this one, they’ll need more production from him.
As a team the Aztecs are still 2nd in the nation in adjusted defensive efficiency, 5th in effective field goal percentage against, 4th in defending the two point shot and 34th in defending the three.
They’re top 75 in the country at shooting the three but not many of their points come from that range as only 27.5% of their total points come from that range which is 273rd nationally.
They could have their hands full tonight though as Colorado State is relatively better on defense.
Colorado State Has Edge on Offense
The Rams roll out a much better offense than the Aztecs have, ranking 22nd in adjusted offensive efficiency.
This high ranking includes an 18th overall ranking in effective field goal percentage, 16th in turnovers on offense, 13th in two point field goal percentage and 61st in three point field goal percentage.
If the game is close the Rams will have the edge ranking 13th in free throw percentage. Leading scorers David Roddy and Isaiah Stevens led the way against Fresno State scoring 13 and 14 points respectively which made up for half of Colorado State’s total offensive output.
The Rams should have no problem limiting San Diego State’s average offense as the Rams rank 77th in adjusted defensive efficiency.
The only thing the Rams struggle with on defense is letting their opponent get off effective three pointers as 37.4% of total opponent points come from behind the arch which is 25th most nationally.
Colorado State vs San Diego State Prediction
With the over/under in this game at 125 and I can see this going under with a race to 55 or 60 to win the game for either team.
With the line favoring San Diego State by 1.5 I can see the Rams doing enough on offense to barely squeak past that number in some sort of 55-50 or 60-55 win.
Roll with the under and if you’re feeling risky, sprinkle some on Colorado State +1.5.
Prediction: Under 125 / Colorado State +1.5
