New Mexico vs Wyoming Betting Analysis
We’ve been analyzing this New Mexico team here at Sportsmemo for a while and what a fall it has been. They’ve lost four of their last five outright including a pair of losses to Nevada.
The Lobos went from being the last undefeated team in college basketball to now fighting for their NCAA Tournament lives.
They take on a depleted Wyoming team that has only won twice in their last 14 games played. New Mexico is currently double digit favorites heading in but do they have what it takes to cover this large spread? Let’s find out.
House Questionable Heading In
During Mountain West play the Lobos are 1st in adjusted tempo and average time of possession on offense. They shoot the least amount of three-pointers and generate the least amount of assists in conference play as well.
In their most recent loss at Air Force the Lobos only generated nine assists while going 7-15 from 3pt land. Jamal Mashburn Jr. may be getting drained at this point in the season averaging 20 ppg.
He’s hit or gone over this number in eight of the team’s last nine games. Wyoming’s defense hasn’t been anything special this season so he shouldn’t have a problem putting up 20+ again tonight, especially playing at The Pit.
The Lobos defense has shown some vulnerability during conference play. They’re 7th in adjusted defensive efficiency, 8th in effective field goal percentage allowed and 11th in 2pt field goal percentage allowed.
Jaelen House is the X-Factor in this game filling up the stat sheet averaging 17.3 points, 4 rebounds, 4.6 assists as well as 2.7 steals per game on the defensive end which is 5th in the nation.
He missed the team’s loss to Air Force due to an injured hamstring and his status for this game is up in the air so be sure to track that heading into tonight.
Wyoming Winding Down Dismal Season
Wyoming has only covered in two of their last six games in what looks like a lost season for the Cowboys. Back on Dec 31, this Cowboys team only lost by one point to New Mexico.
Guard Ethan Anderson was the team’s leading scorer in that game, but he’s since been dismissed from the basketball team simply because of poor performance. Leading scorer Noah Reynolds has been shut down for the season due to concussion issues.
The Cowboys are 4th in adjusted tempo and average possession length but are 8th in effective field goal percentage and 9th in turnover percentage on offense.
Their strength on offense is their 3pt shooting ranking 5th in conference play in 3pt shooting percentage, but the Lobos are 3rd in Mountain West play defending the 3pt shot.
Look for the Cowboys to push it further in the paint as the Lobos are dead last in conference play in 2pt field goal percentage allowed.
New Mexico vs Wyoming Expert Prediction
With the status of House up in the air for the Lobos and the Cowboys dealing with constant lineup changes of their own, lets go over 149 for the game.
New Mexico has played in six straight “over” games with Wyoming playing in nine “over” games in their past 11. Take over 148 with a final score around 80-72.
Prediction: Over 149 Points Scored
