Baltimore Orioles vs Chicago White Sox Analysis
On Thursday night, the White Sox and the Orioles face off for the third and final game of this season series. The White Sox won last night, but the Orioles lead the season series 4-2 against Chicago. The Orioles have a 1.5-game lead over the White Sox in the Wild Card race.
Lance Lynn will take the mound for Chicago tonight, and Jordan Lyles will be on the bump for Baltimore. The White Sox are -120 favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 8.5 runs.
Lynn Leads White Sox Into Game Tonight
The White Sox are making a push in the AL Central and the Wild Card, but they need to be more consistent to make the playoffs this year.
Chicago is 5-5 in their last 10 games and they are just two games over .500 for the season. On the road, Chicago is 33-30, but as a favorite, they are just 29-49 covering the run line.
Righty Lance Lynn will make the start for the White Sox on the road tonight. Lynn is 3-5 in 13 starts this season with a 5.30 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, and a 4.29 FIP. In his last three starts, Lynn has allowed seven runs on 17 hits over 17.2 innings of work.
On 6/25, Lynn faced the Orioles at home and allowed six runs on six hits in 6.2 innings pitched. In 31 innings on the road this season, Lynn gad a 6.39 ERA, a .500 slugging percentage against, a 5.06 FIP, and a 1.52 WHIP. The White Sox are 2-4 in Lynn’s road starts this season and these games have gone over three of the six games he started on the road.
Lyles Loves Pitching at Home
The Orioles are the run line darling of the MLB this season, and they find themselves just 2.5 games out of the Wild Card. Baltimore is 5-5 in their last 10 games and they are 36-24 at home this season. The Orioles are 70-34 covering the spread as an underdog and they are slight dogs tonight at home.
Jordan Lyles will make the start for Baltimore tonight at home. In 25 starts this year, Lyles is 9-9 with a 4.61 ERA, a 4.29 FIP, and a 1.47 WHIP. In his last three starts, Lyles has allowed 10 runs on 22 hits over just 14 innings of work.
On 6/26, Lyles pitched against the White Sox on the road and he allowed four runs on six hits over seven innings in a loss. Lyles has been a much better pitcher at home this season. In 63.1 innings of work, Lyles has a 3.13 ERA, a .390 slugging percentage against, a 3.38 FIP, and a 1.47 WHIP.
Baltimore Orioles vs Chicago White Sox Prediction
The Orioles being a dog today somewhat shocks me. Neither pitcher has been too impressive this season, and the White Sox are better on the road, but how are the Orioles not viewed as the better team?
The White Sox’s bats have been better recently, but the Orioles have a better record. I would lean to the Orioles on the moneyline as the White Sox inspires minimal confidence.
Prediction: Baltimore Orioles Moneyline +102
