Jacksonville Jaguars vs Kansas City Chiefs Betting Preview
The Jaguars pulled off one of the best comebacks in postseason history to advance to the Divisional Round, and now they play the No. 1 seed Chiefs. These two teams met back in November, and the Chiefs won by 10. In fact, KC has won the last five meetings with the Jaguars.
Jacksonville is a great story, and they have been fun to root for this season. Unfortunately, the fun stops at Arrowhead, and they are in for a beatdown.
Monumental Comeback For Jaguars
After throwing four first-half interceptions, Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars remained cool and came back down 27 to beat the Chargers. You cannot spot the Chiefs’ 27 points or have four turnovers in the whole game, let alone the first half.
The last time these teams played, Jacksonville lost by 10. They were down 20-7 heading into halftime, and that lead was insurmountable. The Jaguars turned the Chiefs over three times and had an onside kick recovery in that game.
Still, Lawrence was sacked five times, they were outgained by 171 yards, they were 4-14 on third down, and they had possession for less time than the Chiefs. Losing by ten after playing that way is nothing short of a miracle.
The Jaguars have been much better as a team since that game, but it is fair to question how good they are.
The Chargers were the best team they had beaten in two and a half months, and it took a miracle comeback and poor coaching from the Chargers side.
The Chiefs are too good for the Jaguars to allow them to get out to a big lead. Lawrence has been a top-seven QB for the last month plus, but he alone is not good enough to beat KC. This defense gets cooked by top-tier passers, so Mahomes should have a field day as well.
The Jaguars had a great season, but it is tough to see them matching up with the Chiefs on this big of a stage.
Chiefs Rest Up For Super Bowl Run
Kansas City had a buy and had extra time to get healthy and prepare for their first opponent of the postseason. The Chiefs will host the Jaguars with a chance to make the AFC Championship, and they should pass this test with flying colors.
The Chiefs gained 486 yards the last time they played the Jaguars, and if this happens again, the Chiefs should win by a wider margin.
Mahomes threw for 331 yards and four touchdowns, but he also threw a pick and had a fumble. Now, with extra rest, Mahomes has the ability to tear up this poor passing defense for the second time this season.
The Achilles’ heel for the Chiefs this season has been its red zone defense, and this is the only way I can see them losing.
The Chiefs were 31st in red zone defense, so if the Jaguars do force turnovers and convert in the red zone, this game may be close. However, given the matchup, I think the Chiefs will skate by the Jaguars just fine.
Jacksonville Jaguars vs Kansas City Chiefs Prediction
As you can probably tell, I lean toward taking the Chiefs -8.5 here. This is a great spot to tease the Chiefs down to 2.5 as well. They have too much firepower, and the Jaguars’ pass defense is truly terrible.
Prediction: Chiefs -8.5 or Chiefs in any 6 or 7 point teaser
