Cincinnati Bengals vs Kansas City Chiefs Betting Analysis
The Chiefs and the Bengals played in the AFC Championship last season, and both of these teams seem poised for a stretch run this season. The Bengals started slow but have regained their form and they look like one of the teams to beat in the AFC.
On the other hand, there were a lot of questions about how the Chiefs would be without Tyreek Hill, and the answer is, they are just fine. These are two heavyweight teams going to battle, and we are in for a great matchup.
Chiefs Eye #1 Seed in AFC Playoffs
In what was expected to be a tight AFC West race, the Kansas City Chiefs are rolling and sit at 9-2 so far this season. Patrick Mahomes is playing at his usual MVP level, their defense is hanging in there, and this team is ready for a stretch run.
What Mahomes has done this season with a not-as-great cast of weapons has been amazing. The Chiefs are 1st in points and 1st in yards this season.
On a per-drive basis, the Chiefs are 3rd in time, 1st in plays, 1st in yards, and 1st in points. Mahomes is 2nd in the NFL in net yards per attempt and this team is 11th in yards per attempt on the ground.
In the red zone they are 6th and they are first in third down conversion percentage. There are not too many ways to describe this Chief’s offense other than amazing.
On defense, the Chiefs rely on getting one negative play per drive, and they have been solid at times. Still, this unit may be what costs them if Mahomes cannot save them.
They are last in red zone defense despite being 12th in third-down defense. On a per-drive basis, the Chiefs are 13th in time, 20th in plays, 13th in yards, and 21st in points. This team does well stopping the run but they allow the 2nd to most passing touchdowns on the season.
The Chiefs are built to win the Super Bowl and they will need to beat a Bengals team that bested them in the playoffs last year in order to try to lock in the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
Offensive Injuries Limiting Bengals
The Bengals may have had a slight Super Bowl appearance hangover to start the season, but 12 games in, Cincinnati is back on track. Burrow looks great, this defense continues to impress, and despite poor head coaching, the Bengals are on their way to a playoff appearance.
Even with Chase and Mixon missing time with injuries, Burrow and the Bengals have been explosive on offense and they can move the ball at will. The Bengals are 5th in points and 6th in yards so far this season.
On a per-drive basis, they are 6th in time, 11th in plays, 10th in yards, and 4th in points. Burrow is 8th in the NFL in net yards per attempt and his offensive line has played better as of late.
The Bengals have issues getting their ground game going and they are 29th in the NFL in yards per attempt on the ground. Cincy is 4th on third down and 2nd in the red zone, and as I said, this offense is as dynamic as ever.
Where I have been most impressed so far is with the Bengals’ defense. Their ability to adjust game plans throughout each game is very impressive.
On a per-drive basis, the Bengals are 3rd in time, 11th in plays, 12th in yards, and 13th in points. This team locks down in the red zone and is 6th in red zone defense but they are just 18th on third down. This unit is one of the more underrated units in the NFL, and they are playing at a high level.
Cincinnati Bengals vs Kansas City Chiefs Prediction
While this is still a regular season game, it is hard to imagine that revenge is not on the Chief’s mind. This team has been so impressive this year and it is hard to see them losing to this Bengals team.
On the other hand, the Bengals have improved each and every week and they are trying to prove that their Super Bowl appearance was no fluke. This team can do its best to slow down Mahomes and the Chiefs, but I am not sure what they can throw at coach Andy Reid that he has not seen before.
Prediction: Kansas City Chiefs -1.5 -110
