Milwaukee Brewers vs Chicago Cubs Analysis
On Friday night, the Cubs and the Brewers face off for the first game of a three-game series. This is the final three times these two teams will play each other this season.
The Cubs lead the season series 9-7, but just three of those wins came on the road. The Brewers are -155 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 7.5 runs.
Too Little Too Late For Cubs
The Cubs have been running hot in August, but it is probably too late for Chicago to make a push. The Cubs are 54-71 and 18 games back in the NL Central and 13.5 games back in the NL Wild Card. Chicago is 6-4 in their last 10 games, they are 26-33 on the road this year, and they are 53-35 covering the run line as an underdog.
Lefty Justin Steele is starting for the Cubs tonight on the road. Steele is 4-7 in 23 starts on the season with a 3.25 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP, and a 3.11 FIP.
This will be Steele’s 6th time pitching against the Brewers this season and the Cubs are 2-3 in these games on the moneyline and the run line. Steele’s last start was against the Brewers and he went six innings allowing no runs and just two hits with five strikeouts at home.
On the road this year, Steele has a 4.04 ERA, a .382 slugging percentage against, a 3.41 FIP, and a 1.49 WHIP. Steele has gotten better as the season has gone on and he has a 1.32 FIP in four starts in August. The Cubs are 3-1 in those games with the one loss coming in his last start at home against Milwaukee.
Brewers Need To Rally
The Brewers are running cold right now and they find themselves six games back in the NL Central. Milwaukee is 1.5 games back in the Wild Card, and they can make a push, but they have not been impressive lately.
The Brewers are 4-6 in their last 10 games with a .174 team batting average, they are 31-24 at home, and they are 34-60 covering the run line as a favorite.
Righty Freddy Peralta will make the start for Milwaukee at home tonight. Peralta is 4-3 in 12 starts with a 4.08 ERA, a 3.07 FIP, and a 1.17 WHIP. This will be Peralta’s third start against the Cubs this season, and the Brewers are 1-1 in those games.
In his last start, which was against the Cubs on the road, Peralta allowed two runs on four hits in six innings of work. At home this season, Peralta has a 5.67 ERA, a 3.09 FIP, and a 1.26 WHIP.
Milwaukee Brewers vs Chicago Cubs Prediction
The Brewers are running cold right now, and it is hard to have confidence in them. Peralta has a bad ERA at home, but his FIP is strong, meaning there should be better days ahead for his home outings. Steele has been great, but I am curious how he will perform his sixth time against the same team.
Prediction: Chicago Cubs +1.5 -160
