Atlanta Braves vs Washington Nationals Analysis
On Friday night, the Nationals travel to Atlanta to take on the Braves in a three-game series. The Nationals are coming off a 2-1 series loss against the Phillies on the road and the Braves are coming off a 3-1 series win against the Cardinals at home. This is the seventh time these two teams will go head to head this season and the Braves hold a 4-2 series lead.
Fedde Has Been Serviceable
The Nationals are one of the worst teams in the MLB, and they finally hit the 30-win mark on the season. Washington is 30-55 on the season and they are in last place in the NL East. The Nationals are 16-24 on the road and they are 30-40 covering the run line as an underdog this season.
Erick Fedde will make the start for Washington tonight in Atlanta. Fedde is 5-5 on the season with a 4.29 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, and a 4.33 FIP. On 6/15, Fedde made a start against Atlanta in Washington, and he allowed three runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings of work.
Fedde, in 34.1 innings on the road, has a 3.89 ERA, a .319 slugging percentage against, a 3.97 FIP, and a 1.41 WHIP. The Braves have a .764 OPS at home and a .743 OPS against righties this season.
The Defending Champs
The Atlanta Braves are one of the hottest teams in the MLB and they are looking to take the No. 1 spot in the NL East. Atlanta is 49-35 and they are 3.5 games behind the Mets for the divisional crown. The Braves are 27-18 at home this season and they are 32-31 covering the run line as a favorite.
Charlie Morton will make his 17th start of the season for Atlanta tonight. Morton is 4-3 with a 4.34 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, and a 3.84 FIP. In his last three starts, Morton has allowed four runs on 11 hits in 19.2 innings of work.
At home this season, Morton is pitching to the tune of a 4.00 ERA, a .205 batting average against, a 3.46 FIP, and a 1.06 WHIP. The Nationals have a team OPS of .701 against righties this season and a .712 OPS on the road.
Atlanta Braves vs Washington Nationals Prediction
The Braves, even after a loss last night, are still rolling and I cannot go against them. Both Fedde and Morton have had similar numbers this year, but the Braves’ offense should get to Fedde before the Nationals’ offense gets to Morton. I am going with the Braves to cover the runline in this NL East showdown.
