Miami Marlins at Oakland Athletics Analysis
On Tuesday night, the Marlins and A’s square off for the 2nd game of a three-game series. The Marlins looked like the better team on Monday, but that is not saying much since the A’s have been truly terrible all season long.
For this matchup, the Marlins are -135 road favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at seven runs.
Lopez Letting Runs In Lately
The Marlins had a solid stretch earlier this year, but they are in no position to make a playoff push at this point in the season.
Miami has the 24th lowest OPS in road games this year, they have the worse offense in baseball against lefties, and they have the 29th best offense in August. Miami is 14-32 covering the run line as a favorite this season and they are 27-36 on the road this year.
Pablo Lopez will make the start for the Marlins on the road in Oakland tonight. Lopez had a great start to the season but he has gotten rocked as of late. In his last three starts, Lopez has allowed 12 runs on 19 hits over 15.1 innings of work.
On the season, he is 7-8 with a 3.83 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and a 3.77 FIP. On the road this season, Lopez has a 3.34 ERA, a 3.95 FIP, a 1.13 WHIP, and he has left 81.7% of runners left on base. His last two road starts both went under the total for the full game and the first five innings.
Logue Leads Athletics Into Interleague Battle
The A’s are one of the worst teams in the MLB, but they have been solid against the spread this season. Oakland is 57-52 covering the run line as an underdog, but they are 19-39 in home games this year. The A’s have no chance at the post season, but they still play hard despite having a weak roster.
Zach Logue will make the start for the A’s at home against the Marlins. Logue is 3-7 on the season with a 6.35 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, and a 5.88 FIP. In his last two starts, Logue allowed 13 runs on 14 hits over 9.2 innings of work.
At home this season, Logue has a 4.74 ERA, a 4.39 FIP, and a 1.42 WHIP. Logue can take advantage of a Marlins lineup that has struggled against lefties all year, but he needs to be better himself. The rookie has allowed a run in every start but one this season and he has never gone more than six innings in a Major League game.
Miami Marlins at Oakland Athletics Prediction
Though the Marlins are horrible against lefties this season, this is a spot for them to put up some runs. Lopez is better on the road this year, but his last starts have all be quite bad. I like over 3.5 runs for the first five innings of this matchup.
Prediction: F5 (first five) Under 3.5 Runs Scored
