White Sox vs Guardians Analysis
The Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox meet for the second of three games in a crucial series from Guaranteed Rate Field on Wednesday evening. The Guardians prevailed 10-7 in the 11th inning to increase their division lead to 5 games over the White Sox.
The veteran righty Lance Lynn toes the rubber for Chicago while Cleveland counters with the youngster Triston McKenzie. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST/5:10 PST.
White Sox Need to Gain Ground
The Chicago White record dropped to 76-72 after losing 10-7 last night in extra frames. Dylan Cease was his normal dominant self as he tossed six innings of one run baseball while scattering four hits.
AJ Pollock went 3 for 5 with three RBI while hitting his 13th homerun of the season. The loss puts Chicago a full five games behind in the division with only 14 to play in the regular season. The Pale Hose lineup currently ranks 13th with a .709 OPS on the season.
The 35 year-old Lance Lynn will give it a go on Wednesday night. Lynn is 7-5 on the season with a 3.99 ERA and 1.07 WHIP. He has faced the Guardians four times this season and currently has allowed 11 runs across 22 innings, resulting in a 1-1 record.
Guardians of the Central
The Cleveland Guardians improved to 81-67 on the season after scoring five runs in the top of the 11th to ultimately come out with a 10-7 victory. Leadoff man Steven Kwan went 4 for 6 with two runs and two RBI.
Aaron Civale surprisingly held his own with two runs allowed on four hits across five innings of work. The Guardians now control the Central with a five game lead and only 14 to play. They could use an offensive boost as they currently rank only 19th in the majors with a team OPS of .697.
The young righty Triston McKenzie will take the bump for Cleveland on Wednesday evening. He is 10-11 on the season with a 3.08 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. McKenzie has faced the White Sox three times this season and has allowed only four runs across 17 innings of work.
White Sox vs Guardians Prediction
The Chicago White Sox are favored with the money line set at -135 while the Cleveland Guardians sit at +115 with a total of 8. Triston McKenzie has been brilliant against the Pale Hose all season long and Lance Lynn has put together a second half surge.
This has all the makings of a low scoring game as neither offense can score runs consistently. The Cleveland bullpen has been sharp all season long and the White Sox pen is also getting right late in the season.
Over the last two weeks these bullpens rank 5th and 10th respectively in ERA. These pitching staffs seem to be set up for a low scoring game, so let’s take the under.
Prediction: Under 8 -105
