On Monday night, the Marlins and the Cardinals face off for the first game of a three-game series. The Marlins are coming off a 2-1 series loss at home against the Mets and the Cardinals are coming off a 2-1 series loss at home against the Cubs.
This is the fourth time these two teams will place this season and the Cardinals lead the season series 2-1. For this matchup, the Cardinals are -130 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 7.5 runs.
Miami Marlins Betting Preview
Miami is 33-38 on the season and they sit in fourth place in the NL East. The Marlins are 5-5 in their last 10 games but they have been outscored by seven runs by opponents.
Miami is much better at home and they are just 14-22 on the road this season. As an underdog, Miami is 27-15 covering the run line this season.
Pablo Lopez will make the start for the Marlins tonight in St. Louis. Lopez is 5-3 this season with a 2.61 ERA, a 3.28 FIP, and a 1.06 WHIP. Miami is 8-6 in games started by Lopez this season and they have won three of his last four starts.
Lopez is slightly better at home than on the road this season, but on the road, Lopez has an 8.64 K/9, a 1.15 WHIP, 3.70 FIP, and a .236 batting average against. Lopez pitched against St. Louis on 4/21 and allowed no runs and just three hits in seven innings with nine Ks at home.
St. Louis Cardinals Betting Preview
The Cardinals have fallen to one game back in the NL Central and they are 41-34 on the season. St. Louis is 22-15 this season at home and they are 4-6 in their last 10 games.
The Cardinals have been back and forth with the Brewers for the top spot in the NL Central and they are looking to retake first place and build a lead. St. Louis is 21-19 covering the run line as a favorite this season.
Adam Wainwright will make the start for the Cardinals tonight at home. Wainwright is 5-5 with a 3.32 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and a 3.58 FIP.
Wainwright has been much better at home this season and he has an 8.27 K/9, a 2.88 FIP, a 1.14 WHIP, and the Cardinals are 4-2 when he starts at home. The Marlins have a team OPS of .667 on the road and a .739 OPS against righties.
Miami Marlins at St. Louis Cardinals Prediction
Both of these teams are slumping at the moment and they both have solid pitchers going on the mound. I like the Marlins as an underdog, but their unstable play makes it hard to back them on the moneyline, and the juice is too high on the run line.
Instead, I am looking at under the total for the first five innings of this matchup. Both teams are lower-scoring teams and I do not anticipate a ton of runs today.
Prediction: First Five Innings Under 4 Runs Scored
